Dire Straits was one of my favorite groups as a kid. Heck, I'd dance to, Money for Nothing, when it came on MTV. So it was really a no brainer that this was one of the first albums I purchased when I started collecting vinyl.
Now as an adult, I enjoy this band even more. Especially after I learned how talented Mark Knopfler is. Boy that guy can shred with a guitar.
This entire album from start to finish is one of the best albums ever made and that's not opinion, it's a fact.
It managed to spend 14 non-consecutive weeks on top of the UK charts, 9 weeks in the US, and 34 weeks in Australia. It was also the first album in UK history be 10x platinum in terms of sales.
Why was, Money for Nothing, significant? It was the first song shown on the brand new MTV Europe in 1987. It also set the standard for music videos and their production.
The second side of the album speaks of the senseless of war and uses countless South American instruments such as the pan flute, mariachi trumpet, and a reggae influenced drum bit.
Overall, an album that shouldn't be missed.
