Currently I am participating in a monthly challenge on a Facebook page and the theme is, dead wax, so this album was of course the perfect choice.
Iron Maiden is simply the greatest metal band of all time and it's not even close. (Don't get me started on how they aren't in the rock and roll hall of fame). I really got into them in high school as a way to explore my growing rebellious side. I mean what better way than cranking out some metal music at volume 15.
Live After Death, was recorded at their Long Beach shows with side 4 being recorded in London at the Hammersmith Odeon. All of which took place during their World Slavery Tour which lasted 331 days and 187 concerts. This tour was to promote their latest studio album, Powerslave. To date and currently this was their most successful tour.
Lets talk about the cover art, Derek Riggs, nails this interpretation of Maiden's mascot, Eddie. He actually misquotes HP Lovecraft's, The Timeless City, but it's brilliant nonetheless.
Now for the fun tie in to the Grateful Dead, the back album art, has a stone that says, 'Thank you' which is a subtle nod to the band. Maiden was influenced in some ways by the San Francisco psychedelic rock band.
Sit back, crank up the volume to 15 and just rock out with these guys! Happy Friday my friends!!
