Someone once commented that they enjoyed my collection of 60s garage rock that's fairly obscure. They might be obscure but their imprint on the music scene.
The, Blues Magoos, got their actual start in 1965 as, The Trenchcoats, but after a few shuffles of band members they ended up settling on the name on this album.
In 1966 they were signed to Mercury Records and their first album, Psychedelic Lollipop, was the third album to use the term psychedelic (shortly after the 13th Floor Elevators and The Deep). This album was an initial success and got the band a second album.
This is where in the same breath of other psychedelic and garage bands of the 60s, their label tried changing their sound and image to become more mainstream in the hopes of selling more albums. This allowed them to perform on American Bandstand and The Smother Brothers Comedy Hour.
The band kept some of their sound but they added a comic book inside their album and dressed the band in a more professional attire (they did keep their mop tops though).
Overall this album is a fun one that takes you on a joy ride through what is garage rock of the time. It doesn't have any song that stands out but they all work well together.
As the album closes out with a fun medley, That's All Folks, in homage to Looney Tunes, I leave you with that as well.
