I feel the need, the need for speed, speed at 33 rpm
As a kid I would play this soundtrack over and over in the car cassette player. Heck, I even requested it at a summer party hosted by one of my dad's work friends. In addition, every summer my dad would take me to the local air shows at the Air Force base where one time I got to sit in the cockpit of an F-14 Tomcat.
One time, I even improved foreign relations in third grade, which got me a trip to the principals office. Apparently flipping the bird isn't a good thing.
Other amazing things about this album is the insane guitar shredding by Steve Stevens, which won him a Grammy for Best Pop Instrumental Performance. His work on the Top Gun Anthem is my favorite guitar solo ever.
Here are a few random facts about the soundtrack:
1. Judas Priest was asked to play, Reckless, but they turned down the request to give the rights to the movie producers as it was a big song on the album soon to be released album, Turbo.
2. Toto, Bryan Adams, REO Speedwagon, and Corey Hart all turned down the offer to sing the big hit, Danger Zone. They eventually gave the song to Mr. 80s soundtrack singer, Kenny Loggins.
