Just spinning a fun album from the 80s...
Genesis is one of those groups that have had quite a few different members throughout the life of the band. This album features Phil Collins, Mike Rutherford, and Tony Banks.
Being the 13th studio album for the group, this came about after band finished their 1983-84 world tour. Before working on this album, each member spent time on a side project. Phil released, No Jacket Required, Mike formed his own group, Mike and the Mechanics, and Tony spent his time working on some music scores and released the album, Soundtracks.
This break paid dividends as the group spent time at their recording studio, The Farm, in Chiddingfold, Surrey. Collins began to experiment with a Simmons Electronic Drum Kit which greatly shaped the album's direction. This surge in creativity helped form the song, Invisible Touch, as the band came up with the song during a random jam session at the studio.
Being a more upbeat album, this helped the band continue the success of their world tour and reach a more widespread audience. It would also help propel them to have another world tour shortly after the album was finished.
Fun Fact
It also gave the band their only number one hit on US Billboard charts with the song, Invisible Touch. Ironically enough, former Genesis member, Peter Gabriel, knocked them out of the number one spot with his song, Sledgehammer.
