If I'm here and you're here, isn't this our time, Mr. Hand? - Jeff Spicoli
—
I talked about John Hughes and his contributions to 80s music and movies but let's talk about person who did the same; Cameron Crowe.
Crowe wrote, Fast Times at Ridgemont High, after posing as a student at Clairemont High School in San Diego.
One of the students he befriended was, Andy Rathbone, who became famous for his book series, For Dummies. The books that helped our parents in the early 90s understand their email, excel and other Microsoft products. Mark 'Rat' Ratner was based on Andy.
That being said, this is quite possibly my favorite movie of all time. When watching it, I am often told, not to quote the movie as I know it word for word. Seriously though, how can I not? It's one of the most quotable movies, ever.
Now how about that soundtrack though? It opens up with Jackson Browne's hit, Somebody's Baby. Other great songs like, Raised on the Radio, and Sammy Hagar makes an appearance with a solo effort, Fast Times at Ridgemont High.
It even has Jimmy Buffett sing, I Don't Know (Spicoli's Theme). Not bad for a guy who wasn't mainstream just yet. But another huge reason I love this movie.
Did you have a favorite movie and soundtrack of the 80s?
