Baroque pop? Yep and we aren't talking about Bach shredding tunes on his organ in the 18th century.
We're talking about the 1960s genre of music that is confused with psychedelic rock. This genre involves organs, pipes, and similar instruments of the original Baroque era. Instead this one is more upbeat and poppy.
I've actually had a few discussions about this genre. Yes, I enjoy the music a lot but no, it isn't the trippy acid infused rock you think it is. Is it closely related, that's debatable.
But....
It could be a relative of prog rock but a British form. As British artists were more inclined to play baroque pop than their American counterparts. Though American artists did dabble in it.
Back to the album that is tonight's spin. This album by The Zombies, is nothing short of brilliant. A wonderful album with quite a few good songs.
One song that stands out is, This Will Be Our Year, was used in one of my favorite TV shows, The Middle.
Time of the Season, became an anthem of the counter culture movement of the late 60s. It also put the band back on the map.

They are underrated but wouldn't be if they had had more hits.
