A tough day for Deadheads everywhere, myself included. Truth be told, I found the Grateful Dead later in my musical journey. My brother would listen to them when we were teenagers and saw the Dead and Company a few times before I ever caught on.
But...
Let me tell you, the moment I heard, Franklin's Tower, I was absolutely hooked. The music put me in another place, another mindset, and it was instantly pure bliss.
After hearing that, I fully invested myself into their musical catalogue.
Ranging from their beginnings as a psychedelic rock group out of San Francisco as the Warlocks, to performing at the Acid Tests for Ken Kesey and the Merry Pranksters, to Woodstock, to Buffalo and Cornell in 1977. It was one heck of a ride where the music never stopped.
I also thank the band for giving me something to talk about with my brother as we got older. Other things transpired to bring us closer together but their music really helped.
Thank you Phil for giving us a ton of memories to last your lifetime and to last ours, may the four winds blow you home again.
You will be missed by many, but in the immortal words of Jerry,
If you get confused, just listen to the music play.
RIP - Phil Lesh
