Sunshine psychedelic pop. You’re probably thinking, has Joe lost his mind? Truth is, more than likely but this rabbit hole is pretty deep, so I want you to come along for the ride.
Time to hop on the bus and enjoy this melodic music that originated in the late 60s in the sunny state of California. It’s not the fuzzed out, backward laced tracks, or the eerily haunting sounds that accompany the psychedelic rock that you’re used to from me. It’s cheery, melodic, and has a decidedly sunny sound.
When you think of this, think of, The Zombies - Odyssey and Oracle, or some of the Beach Boys albums of the time.
But it’s time to talk about the band, The Sunshine Company. The band got their big break after they were discovered by Bill McEuen (the manager for, The Nitty Gritty Band) and he encouraged them to release a single of the song, Up Up and Away, but before they could, it was released by, The Fifth Dimension.
This is their second album after a very promising start but this album didn’t quite meet the success of the first but that didn’t stop them from being a popular act in Southern California for the short time they were active.
